    •  Below is an overview of our program:

      LANGUAGE ARTS

Spelling: Using the Spelling Workout b series, which treats spelling as a developmental process, students progress in stages, much as they learn to speak and read. Every student can become a successful speller in no time. Students learn spelling skills based on phonics through unique, cross-curricular reading passages, practice, and writing activities throughout the book.

Grammar: After a review of nouns and verbs your child will progress into learning the meaning and usage of adjectives, conjunctions, quotations, sentence types, prepositions, synonyms, antonyms and more. There will also be narration exercises, copying, and dictation to facilitate an initial grasp of the English language.

Reading: The second grade package includes a selection of Kinza's mostly classic literature to read to your child and to support the second grade studies, and further instill the love of reading in your child. The program also includes a book of poetry, which is an excellent approach to developing eloquence and improving memory skills.

Penmanship: An Italics penmanship workbook that moves into cursive writing with plenty of writing exercises to ensure a smooth transition from the manuscript style. We include our Content of Character Copybook, the first in our curriculum series.

      MATH

This portion of the program includes beginning math skills using the classical abacus approach to provide a thorough understanding of subtraction and multiplication skills with an emphasis on strategic problem solving. The abacus approach does not encourage rote memorization, but is designed to give children a solid foundation in basic mathematical concepts, later enabling them to move easily into higher mathematics. Children using this method have greater confidence in their math skills, and are able to approach problems from different angles using multiple problem solving skills, a tool which proves invaluable in real life.

      HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY

Your child will learn about medieval and early Renaissance history including the Byzantine Empire, the great kings of France, the Norsemen, the first kings of England, the Crusades, the Ottoman Empire, War of the Roses, the exploration of new worlds, and more. There will also be coloring maps of the medieval and early Renaissance worlds, and creative projects to give the child a first-hand experience of how people lived during these periods.

      SCIENCE

Working from nicely illustrated books, your child will learn about geology and the design of the Solar System with an introduction to astronomy. The course is replete with plenty of projects to make it interesting and memorable.

      ART

The student will learn to draw from chapter titles such as: Native Americans, North America, The Pilgrims, Polar Regions, The Arctic, and The Antarctic. The course emphasizes the similarity between drawing and writing, and encourages children to see writing as an extension of art.
